D. Hayner introduced K. Meyer, Immediate Past President of the ISA to the NYSA board. Mr. Meyer informed the board that if any board members have any questions with regard to the ISA office he would be happy to answer them.

Executive Secretary’s Report-: S. Pezzino made a motion to have the October 20, 1996 board minutes corrected and then approved. D. Goedeke advised that 25 individuals applied for membership.

Treasurer’s Report: T. Mullarney distributed and reviewed his ending year budget for 1996. T. Mullarney distributed and reviewed the 1997 proposed budget to the NYSA board. Mr. Mullarney was unable to contact each committee person for their proposed line items. If there are any amendments to be made, they can be made at the annual meeting. With regard 10 the new executive secretary contract, there is a savings of $5,132.65 over a year’s period. The association now has its own dedicated telephone and fax line. T. Mullarney reported that office expenses for 1997 will be lower. This is due to the fact that items that were previously extra billed are now included in the executive secretary contract.

Certification threre are currently 312 certified arborists in New York State. There are three more certification exams planned for 1997.

Convention: M. Grimm reported to the board the preregistration numbers for the Empire State Tree Conference. There are 250 individuals registered at this time. The banquet agenda was reviewed.

Workskops’ Seminars: Tree Hazard and Tree Preservation workshops were held in Long Island and Syracuse, NY. They were co-sponsored with ASCA.

Public Relations: M. Barry displayed the two new banners of the NYSA. One is our chapter name and the other is our mission statement. Mr. Barry presented the public service announcement tapes that have been made and will be distributed to the governors.

1999 ISA Convention: D. Hayner reported on the progress towards making the 1999 ISA Convention a success. Mr. Ilayner and Mr. Bartleu will be soliciting volunteers to work at the 1999 convention during this conference. Warren Johnson Endowment Fund’ M. Grimm advised that the fund is approximately $1,100.00 short. A letter was sent to Mr. John Ackerman at Cornell University Press from Mr. Grimm soliciting a donation to the memorial fund.

ISA Research Trust: T. Draves will chair this committee with M. Didyk being co-chair.

Membership Development: M. Didyk reported on the success of offering new regular members a discount on the conference registration.

Shade Tree Notes: G. Frank reported that with the assistance of the Pancoast firm, Shade Tree Notes would be available to the membership at the conference.

Awards and Scholarships: 6. Frank reported who the award recipients were for this year.

ISA Report G.Frank reported that there were two proposals voted on and passed by the ISA board in Utah; the Certified Tree Worker/Climber Specialist and Utility Certification. 6. Frank noted to the board members that each chapter has the authority to choose implementation or not. There is a new video describing the jamboree rule changes. Plans are underway for an ISA office to be in England. You can now e-mail the ISA.

Branching Out: G. Hudler reported that “Branching Out” will be published again this year. There are 500 subscriptions for 1997. This will be a make or break year for “Branching Out”. “Branching Out” needs to finish 1997 with at least 700 subscriptions

General Membership Minute Review

ISA Report: K Meyer advised the membership that he would be available during the conference for any questions or concerns a member may have regarding the ISA. NYSA is a host Chapter for the 1999 convention. There are currently 7,500 certified arborists throughout the world and that number is increasing rapidly. The ISA annual conference will be in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Audit of 1996 Books: G. Carbocci reported that he and M. Grimm reviewed the books and records of the NYSA and everything was in order and accurately kept as stated in the treasurer’s report.
