What you need:
Double potting is a handy technique to use when you want the decorative look of an ornamental pot but the horticultural advantages of the standard clay pot, such as a drainage hole. First select a watertight ornamental pot that is a few inches wider in diameter than the growing pot. |

| Fill the bottom of the decorative pot with at least a few inches of clean gravel and charcoal. This drainage material will serve as an overflow reservoir when the plant is watered. |

| Insert the growing clay pot inside the ornamental pot. The growing pot must be constructed of clay, not plastic. The porous nature of the clay allows it to absorb moisture. |

| Fill the void between the growing pot and ornamental pot with sphagnum moss. The moss absorbs excess water. It will serve as an automatic plant watering system, allowing moisture to wick through the clay pot to the plant. |
