Consider four seasons of interest when you site and landscape your water feature.
Locate your pond or barrel where it can be easily seen and enjoyed. If the opportunity allows, site your feature so you can see and hear it while indoors, as well.
Avoid locating your small water feature under the canopy of large trees, if possible. Leaves and heavy shade can pose problems.
Make sure that there is adequate support under barrel water gardens–consider the weight of filled barrels when selecting a location.
Consider the availability of electricity to the site.
Watering tips
Stay out of the garden as much as possible when the soil is wet. Never rototill wet soil!
Pick off dead flowers to reduce disease problems like botrytis.
Turn the automatic sprinkler to manual and water only when needed.
Make sure containers have adequate drainage–tip pots to remove excess water.
