The Long Island Nurserymen’s Association Mission Statement

The Long Island Nurserymen S Association (LINA) is a non-profit alliance of nursery businesses that includes growers, landscapers retailers, and allied individuals and organizations tied together to advance the common interest of its members, foster fair and friendly relations among its members, cultivate high standards of business ethics, promote the. use, and enhance the quality of the products and skills of the nursery trade while building up the public esteem and goodwill towards the Association and to secure for the Association and its members maximum benefits of education, science and research. The following activities are the primary means LINA uses to achieves its purposes as outlined in our Mission Statement.

. Meetings and Seminars
Throughout the year LINA holds or co-sponsors meetings of direct interest to growers, landscapers, and garden center operators featuring guest speakers on timely topics. Meetings are occasionally held at various member locations to get to know one another and share ideas.

Scholarships and Innovative Grant Programs Each year LINA works with SUNY Farmingdale, Suffolk Community College and The Scholarship Committee to review and select deserving student candidates for two scholarships. LINA also contributes to industry related research projects through its Innovative Grant Program. Combined with the scholarship program, LINA donates over $10,000 annually.

Participation in Shows
LINA members as well as the Association itself participate in outside shows that promote the industry.

Man of the Year Award
Every year a deserving nursery professional is honored at the annual Dinner Dance, the social event of the year. The membership nominates worthy candidates who have contributed most in services to the industry. Description

An Organization of retail and wholesale nursery businesses providing horticultural products and services, plants, trees, shrubs, annuals, perennials, flowers, houseplants, tools, equipment, fertilizers, pesticides, landscape garden design contracting.

Certified Nursery Professional Training and Exam
LINA conducts training and examination sessions for Long Island nursery industry professionals who wish to become Certified Nursery Professionals through the New York State Nursery/Landscape Association’s Certified Nursery Professional Program. Candidates must demonstrate the highest degree of professionalism in nursery and related matters as well as successfully completing a rigorous examination to determine complete knowledge and competence in a variety of areas of concentration to become Certified Nursery Professional.

Long Island Nurserymen’s Association Members

Retailers Garden Centers and Nursery Businesses who sell horticultural products and services directly to the public, primarily homeowners and gardening enthusiasts, and not for resale products include, but are not limited to, trees, shrubs vines ground covers, annual and perennial flowering plants, potted plants, houseplants gardening tools equipment and supplies, garden furniture and ornaments, fertilizers, soils soil amendments, pesticides and related seasonal products such as Christmas trees, holiday decorations gifts, live and artificial flowers, plants and home decor products Many offer services such as landscape design, contracting, landscape maintenance, pest control and gardening advice

Wholesalers
Growers, manufacturers and distributors of horticultural products (as described under Retailers), exclusively for resale, and not to the general public or direct to consumers

Landscapers
Landscape Contractors, Designers and Landscape Architects who provide horticultural products and services such as landscape design, planting and construction of landscape features These may include walks, decks, patios, swimming pool areas, ponds, garden bridges, gazebos etc Many of these individual companies may provide other services such as landscape management, pest control etc

Allied Members
Individuals and businesses involved in the nursery and landscape business such as educators, equipment dealers, suppliers of goods and services used by LINA members and other professionals
